Penn State friends and family,
I hope that spring has kicked off in a great way for you and your
families. I am writing to you all today to respectfully ask
for your support and vote for the Alumni Council of the Penn State
Alumni Association. The Alumni Council is responsible for
all policies and procedures for the Alumni Association-- whose
mission is to connect Penn State alumni to each other and their
alma mater and support the university's mission of teaching, research,
and service. The ballots will go out via email and regular
mail on Tuesday morning March 25th. I also urge
you to support Mike Cooper and Ted Dwyer (for the Alumni Council
and Board of Trustees, respectfully), two great alumni who will
serve us with pride. Please forward this email on to other dedicated
Penn Staters like yourself, we would greatly appreciate the support!
In my 2+ years (and counting) of serving as President for the
Northern New Jersey chapter of the Alumni Association since my
May 2005 graduation, I have given all I can to support our mission.
I have and will continue to serve as a voice for all graduates,
and to improve the communications and services to our alumni. From
improving technology initiatives for the alumni association to
expanding the role THON plays in keeping our alumni engaged, I
will be a committed "doer" on the council to do my part
to improve from day one.
No one knows me better than my friends and family, and that is
why I wrote to you today. You each know how much I love Penn State
and how I want nothing but the best for this university. Again,
I appreciate your support more than you know. Feel free
to reach me by email
or phone if there is anything you need.
WE ARE!!!

Receives 2007 Recent Alumnus Award
Submitted 12/22/07
The Penn State Alumni Association honored four individuals and
21 groups for their outstanding work the past year by giving
them one of 14 Volunteer Awards at an Oct. 26 ceremony at The
Nittany Lion Inn on Penn State's University Park campus. The
Volunteer Awards, part of the Alumni Association's comprehensive
recognition program, acknowledge outstanding individuals and
groups for service to their communities, the University and the
Alumni Association. Each affiliate group recognized for a group
award receives a certificate recognizing their organization's
achievement and a $500 grant to be used for future programming.
Individual award winners receive a crystal Nittany Lion to commemorate
their achievements.
The 2007 Recent Alumnus Award recognizes Michael
Cocco '05. In his first year as an alum in 2006, Cocco
was the top fund-raiser and Thon dancer for the Dance Marathon
Alumni Interest Group. Currently, Cocco is the president of
the Northern New Jersey Chapter. Through his leadership, the
group has revised and updated its Web site, doubled the number
of events it holds, doubled the chapter's financial contribution
to Thon, and more. Cocco's volunteerism reaches beyond the
gates of Penn State. He serves on the Executive Board of Nutley
UNICO, an American-Italian service organization that helps
families in need. He also serves as a member of the Million
Dollar Round Table, a professional organization made up of
the top one-percent of the world's best financial advisors.
