Upsilon Board Meets to Plan the Future of our Chapter
"we can earn our way back to the upper echelon of fraternities
at Penn State"
The board of Upsilon Chapter, Inc. met June 30th to plan for
the next year. Over the past ten years we’ve had
our challenges as a chapter. But after a long journey back, your
board feels this is a year to make a significant investment in
the chapter so we can earn our way back to the upper echelon
of fraternities at Penn State.

But wait... there's more...

meeting on June 30th, 2007 |
To that end, we have committed $20,000 to the chapter to do
the following: refurbish the kitchen with new (or used) equipment
as well as utensils and supplies; renovate the ladies head; invest
in recruitment to ensure we have a full house for the next school
year (2008-2009) and every year thereafter.
We also intend to use our Educational Foundation to help encourage
and motivate enhanced academic performance and student leadership.
If our fundraising efforts under the leadership of Matt
Campbell ‘00 generate additional funding, we
will also renovate the party room, a place of a million memories,
and continue to upgrade the furniture, fixtures and equipment
to enhance the Brothers’ quality of life.

And this isn’t all. We’ll be forming an alumni
advisory council to provide more proactive support to our undergraduate
leaders from some of our more recent graduates. The council
will provide individual and group advice and counsel to the Brothers
and be available for less formal consultation. Another
group of your alumni Brothers will be exploring initiatives and
activities to help build brotherhood for life. Ideas under
consideration are a job/resume bank for full-time jobs and internships,
regional Upsilon activities and more reunions at the Old Gal.

We need your help, of course. With all this new energy
and ideas, we need the support of the Brotherhood to make all
this—and more—a reality. Money will help, it
always does. But your contribution can also come as an
investment in time and energy. The time spent is not all
work either—the spirit of Alpha Sig and fun lives on long
after we’ve left the Old Gal. So please get involved
and give back to an experience that gave so much to you. Keep
an eye on our website and you’ll have lots of opportunities
to give back.
With Brotherhood for Life,
Skip Lange ‘67 - President, Upsilon Chapter,

| The Agenda from the Chapter
Advisory Team's Fall 2007 Kick-off Meeting with the Actives |
Chapter Advisory Team meets with Actives to Provide
Direction and Support
"focus areas include academic improvement, risk management,
community service/philanthropy and leadership development"
On August 25, members of the Chapter Advisory Team (CAT) met
with the Upsilon undergraduates to kick off the Fall semester.
Much like the purpose and mission of the CAT, the objective
of the meeting was to provide direction and support to the brothers.
We continually re-visit our strategic objectives to ensure the
chapter is progressing. Some of the focus areas include academic
improvement, risk management, community service/philanthropy
and leadership development. Of course in my years as the GCA,
I haven’t had to remind the chapter about having a good
time!
We also continue to set goals that will ensure success for the
Chapter now and in the future. For example our Fall 2007 Pledge
class goal is 20+ members. On the business side, we want to guarantee
a full house for next year by requiring 35 brothers to sign a
master lease agreement with the Upsilon Corporation by December
1, 2007. Then following up through the Upsilon Educational Foundation,
we’ve offered incentives to the brothers to achieve these
goals. These are in addition to our GPA incentive plan approved
at the summer board meeting.
As you can see, we try to keep it simple and provide as much
support as possible to the brotherhood. Our ability to do this
is sustained through alumni contributions of both time and gifts.
On behalf of the CAT, thank you for your support and we look
forward to seeing you at Homecoming.

We’ve added the Undergraduate Bylaws to
the website so that our brotherhood can view and post any comments,
suggestions, etc. These bylaws have not been updated since 1988
and could use a good update - Russ Gombos ’69

Board or our Chapter Advisors...
